Which "old wives tale" about cats do you think is most misleading?

So often, I see people quoting "facts" that I know aren't true, and it makes me bang my head against the desk. What spurred this question was I just saw someone, who seemed to know quite a bit about nutrition, who recommended dry food because it "cleans a cat's teeth". I think its strange that people can hear something once, and then never research it and believe it forever. What do you think are the biggest commonly accepted misconceptions about raising/feeding/caring for cats?

Cats are less important than dogs - Disgusting
If you think declawing is mutilation you shouldn't get your cat neutered either - THIS REALLY GETS MY BLOOD PRESSURE UP

Gears And Its Classification

Gears are the mechanical elements which are used to transmit rotational motion by means of successively engaging teeth. The toothed gears are supposed behave like small levers which free to rotate about a fixed point. Such gears are used to change the speed, power or even the direction of motion between the input and output shaft.

Gears can be classified in to three categories based on their axes of revolution. The axes may be parallel, intersecting, neither parallel nor intersecting. Based on these the gear classifications are gears for connection of parallel shafts, gears for connecting intersecting shafts and neither parallel nor intersecting shafts.

Common gears which are classified under parallel shafts are the following.

- Spur gears- they can make either external contact or internal contact ie having same axes of rotation.

- Parallel helical gears are those which have their axes of rotation to be parallel with skewed teeth.

- Herringbone gears are otherwise called as double -helical gears which rotate along the same axes of revolution.

- Rack and pinion gears are those which have their axis at infinity.

The typical gears which have intersecting axes are the bevel gears.

- Straight bevel gears - their tooth are not angled

- Zero bevel gears - their tooth are crowned so the tooth contact takes place at the tooth center.

- Spiral bevel gears- they have spiral tooth.

The gears which come under the third category of neither intersecting nor parallel axes are as follows:

- Crossed helical gears are those which connect skewed shafts. Their teeth have sliding motion and hence have a lower efficiency.

- Hypoid gears are similar to spiral bevel gears but do not have intersecting axes.

- Worm gears have a worm driving gear which typically has 4 to 5 teeth. Due to sliding action it has a lower efficiency.

These are the various classifications of gears as per their axes of rotation.
