Do you use metal or plastic barrels for barrel racing?

I have only ever seen the metal ones used, but I don't really follow the sport. In another question a poster replied that she was suprised that the asker was using metal barrels instead of plastic, so now I'm confused.

Which barrels are more common? Does it vary based on age, experience, part of the country? Which are better and why?

You can use which ever. I use plastic. Plastic barrels are easier to knock over because they are lighter. I would rather be used to the plastic ones and have the heavier metal ones when i get to a show than visa versa. plus plastic barrels are usuallycheaperr ans easier to move around. they also make challenging jumps.
